The WARS exhibition opened Wednesday 6 September at the Palazzo Ducale in Mantua. This international photography competition was conceived by Fabio Bucciarelli, its artistic director, and Raffaele Crocco, editor-in-chief of Atlante delle Guerre and Atlas of Wars. Now in its third edition, the competition, which includes the Montura Prize, has attracted photographers worldwide. They have submitted photo reportages that depict wars and conflicts on the planet, not only as battles but also by exploring their causes and reasons.
The works of the three finalists will be exhibited as part of the Mantua Literary Festival. Finalists are Siegfried Modola with a photographic report from Burma, Santi Palacios, who has documented some of the lesser-known and more violent migration routes, and Federico Rios with work from Ukraine. An esteemed jury of Maral Deghati, Philip Blenkinsop and Rodrigo Abd has been asked to judge the entries. The winner will be announced on Sunday 10 September.
After Mantua, the exhibition will move to the War Museum in Rovereto from 15 September to 22 October.
The WARS competition has been launched with the support of Montura, in partnership with the Italian Historical War Museum in Rovereto, Unimondo and Intersos.
